A very lifelike rendition of a taro pie, if taro pies in fact could live. (I’m glad they don’t, because then I would feel terribly guilty every time I ate one.)
This yummy-looking taro pie is part of the breakfast unit I did at the elementary school. When I make up my own topic as opposed to using existing flashcards, not only do I get to have fun drawing the pictures, but I also get to choose which words kids have to remember. Usually, I pick words that are important to me.
By the way, if you’re having trouble figuring out what a taro pie is, just check out the “Taro Pie” section of my other site, Okinawa Champloo: http://okinawachampuru.wordpress.com

This was the hardest word in the breakfast unit for the kids to pronounce.

Seiya is one of the most lovable kids at school, but he really needs to rethink his diet…custard pudding for breakfast and ramen for dinner?

Or, as they say here in Okinawa, pork onigiri.

To me, it’s less acceptable as a breakfast food than, say, custard pudding. But the Japanese seem to think it’s perfectly normal to eat from morning till night, and many of them never get bored of it, either…so I decided to humor them for our breakfast vocab unit.
Now that’s what I call breakfast.
